Matsugamine
About 1,500 cherry trees have been planted around Matsugamine and the spot was chosen as one of the best 100 scenic places in Niigata Prefecture. During cherry blossom season parts of the area are also lit up at night. When Matsugamine Pond (an artificial pond completed in 1960) was made for agricultural use, cherry trees were planted around the pond. After that, as tourism developed and a golf course opened, the number of cherry trees gradually increased. It is also a popular spot for photography enthusiasts.
