Morning
The lotus seen in the Takada Castle Ruins Park is said to be the best in the East. Most of the 19 hectares of outer moat surrounding castle ruins in the park is covered with lotus.
The lotuses close their flowers in the afternoon, so we recommend viewing them in the morning.

Takada Castle Site Park Lotus Festival
In 1871, the domain of Takada was suffering from financial difficulties due to Boshin War and extremely poor harvest. In order to overcome this situations, Sadakichi Hosaka (the first mayor of Tsuari Village), a large landowner in Tonome, invested his assets to plant lotus in the moat. Lotus roots were harvested until 1962.
When the Dr. Ichiro Oga known as lotus researcher visited the pond, he highly praised it saying "this large size of pond is rare in the world, and especially it is rare to have a lotus pond with a mixture of red and white flowers.". Citizens who heard about it handed down until today that it is the best in the East.
