(NOTICE) Due to heavy rain on July 26 (Tuesday) and the possibility of landslides the prefectural road and parts of city roads in the vicinity of Naoetsu beach had been closed to traffic. On July 29 (Fri.) roads were re-opened to regular traffic and access to Naoetsu beach was possible.
The sea here is unusually shallow with a wide, sandy beach facing the Sea of Japan. Behind the beachside cafes are parking lots capable of accommodating more than 1,000 vehicles. The beach has a reputation for good water quality and visitors often come from far away places such as Nagano Prefecture and the Kanto area. Joetsu City Aquarium is 5 minutes on foot from the beach.
The area is popularly known as "another sea". By all means please visit and take a walk down the beach.
