Ningyo Densetsu Koen (Mermaid Folktale Park)

In the park on Gankohama shore, there stands a 'mermaid folktale monument'. It stares at Sado island, based on a tragic love story handed down over generations in Ogata ward. The folktale is called *'Ningyo zuka densetsu (mermaid folktale)', and it is also said that the well-known children's story 'Red candles and a mermaid' by Mimei Ogawa (born in Joetsu) was based on this story.
*Ningyo zuka densetsu; a tragic love story of a young woman coming across the ocean from Sado to Gankohama every night and a young man of the land.
