Boga Ike Lakeside Park
Legend has it that Bogaike, at an elevation of 500 meters, is famous for being the pond of a dragon god. It is said that the origin of the name comes from "Botaro", the child of the dragon god who lived in the pond. It has a surface area of about 12 hectares, a circumference of 1.7 km, a water volume of 2,100,000 tons and a maximum depth of 33 meters. It is the deepest natural lake in Niigata Prefecture. Since ancient times, it has been a reservoir and tributary for ricefields downstream and in 2010 it was chosen as one of Japan's "Top 100 Reservoirs".
